The US regulatory agency and international reference CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) decided to recommend Pfizer and Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccines for children 6 months and up to 5 years old.
The CDC’s approval was unanimous. According to the Reuters news agency, vaccinations for these people, which are not yet considered in vaccination campaigns in the United States, are likely to begin next week.
Yesterday, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) announced the same decision as the CDC, stating that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks.
The American newspaper The New York Times reported Wednesday, 15th, that the FDA and CDC are working on vaccine recommendation for infants and children and have sent their committees 230 pages of data to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of vaccines.
The FDA recommends using Moderna in two doses one month apart. For immunocompromised children and adolescents, a third dose or booster dose is allowed, which should be administered one month after the last vaccination.
Vaccination with Pfizer requires three doses, the first two taken three weeks apart. The last dose is given at least eight weeks later.
