Pope Francis issued a new appeal on Sunday 19, not to forget the Ukrainian people, who have been the target of the military occupation supported by Russia since February 24.
“Let’s not forget the martyred Ukrainian people who are now suffering,” the Catholic Church leader told nearly 20,000 loyal listeners at Angelus on Sunday.
“There is one question I want you all to keep in mind: What did I do for the Ukrainian people today? Am I doing something? Am I trying to understand? Each answer is in his own heart,” the Pope added.
While the Pope has never been directly critical of Russia, he has been openly on the side of Ukraine since the beginning of the war and has condemned several times the massacres against the civilian population.
Francis also tried to meet with President Vladimir Putin, but received no response from the Kremlin.
