US President Joe Biden’s approval rating fell 36% for the fourth week in a row, hitting its lowest level at the end of May, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Wednesday.
The president’s approval rating has dropped below 50% since August, a warning sign that the Democratic Party could lose control of at least one of the Houses of Congress in November.
For 34% of Americans, the economy is the most important issue in the United States. Biden is grappling with the highest inflation in 40 years as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine constrains global fuel supplies and supply chains are still constrained by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In his own party, Biden’s approval rating has remained largely unchanged since last week – 73% compared to 74% on June 15. In August, 85 percent of Democrats approved of the Biden administration.
Among Republicans, however, Biden’s approval rating dropped to 7%, compared to 11% on June 15. Only 18% of Americans think the country is heading in the right direction.
Biden’s approval rating is approaching — but not quite there — the lows of his predecessor Donald Trump, who had an approval rating of 33% in December 2017.
