The United States Supreme Court on Thursday struck down a New York state law that imposed limits on carrying guns in public, finding it violates the Second Amendment to the US Constitution.

The decision, taken by a 6-3 majority, enshrines the right of Americans to leave their homes armed, just weeks after a series of mass killings, including those in Uvalde and Buffalo.

New York law, which dates back to 1913, limited the issuance of concealed-carry permits to people who had reason to believe they might have to defend themselves.

The judgment of the highest American court will have repercussions in other American states which have comparable legislation.

The six justices who approved the decision are all associated with the conservative wing of the Supreme Court, which has become a clear majority since the appointments made by the Trump administration.

More details to come.
