Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky videoconferenced crowds at Britain’s Glastonbury music festival on Friday, urging them to support and spread the truth about Russia’s invasion and pressure politicians to help restore peace.
Wearing his traditional military uniform, Zelensky received applause on the Other stage of the music festival after a pre-recorded message was played before a performance by rock band The Libertines.
“Russia has stolen our peace,” he told the crowd at Glastonbury, the world’s largest green space festival.
“Glastonbury is where freedom is at its highest these days, and I ask you to share this sentiment with all those whose freedom is under attack,” said Zelensky, speaking in English.
The more people join us in defending freedom and truth, the sooner Russia’s war against Ukraine will end,” he said. “Prove that freedom always wins.”
Having established a close working relationship with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Zelensky has routinely appeared via videoconference before national parliaments and global bodies to assist Ukraine in the war, which Russia has dubbed a “special military operation”.
He also gave a video speech before the Eurovision Song Contest.
