Norwegian Prime Minister Gahr Stoere said Saturday that a gunman’s violent attack on a gay bar and elsewhere in central Oslo will not end the fight for the right of all individuals to live a free and secure life.
Police questioned the 42-year-old Norwegian national of Iranian descent on Sunday for the second time since his arrest.
The suspect, whom police describe as a radicalized Islamist with psychiatric problems, is charged with killing two people and injuring 21 on Saturday, when Oslo is holding a Pride Parade.
Speaking at a private ceremony at Oslo Cathedral, Stoere said he may have ended the parade, which was canceled after the attack, but did not end the fight “against discrimination, prejudice and hatred”.
The black-clad prime minister spoke of the thousands who spontaneously protested in the streets of Oslo on Saturday, waving rainbow flags and placing flowers at the crime scene to honor the victims.
“During the day, the city was full of people who wanted to express their sadness and anger, but also to express support and solidarity and the willingness to continue the fight for the right of every individual to a free and secure life,” he said.
