Russian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that a Russian missile attack hit a crowded shopping center in the central Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk.
The president said in a message on Telegram that more than 1,000 people were in the mall at the time of the attack. While not giving details on the loss of life, he said, “It is not even possible to imagine the number of victims. It is futile to expect good manners and humanity from Russia.”
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces shared the video of the burning shopping center on Zelensky’s account on social media. The publication says, “The occupiers fired rockets at the shopping center where there are more than a thousand civilians. The shopping center is on fire, the rescue teams are responding to the fire, it is impossible to imagine the number of dead.”
The Kremlin has yet to take a position on the allegations.
The mayor of the city, Vitaliy Meletskiy, said the attack caused deaths and injuries, but did not give figures.
Kremenchuk, an industrial city with a population of 217,000 before the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, is the location of Ukraine’s largest oil refinery.
