The alleged perpetrator of the deadly shooting attack in Oslo, considered by police to be an Islamist with mental health problems, was placed in precautionary custody for four weeks on Monday.

The Oslo court has ruled that the 43-year-old suspect, officially identified as Zaniar Matapour, cannot make any visits or correspondence with the outside world until 25 July.

The Iranian-born Norwegian is suspected of killing two men, aged 54 and 60, and injuring 21 when he opened fire near a gay bar in central Oslo during the Pride Parade celebrations on Friday night.

Norwegian police have not yet determined the cause of the attack.

Zaniar Matapour is suspected of “act of terrorism”, murder and attempted murder.

Police said they are working on a variety of theories, from an ideologically motivated attack to a hate crime against the gay community, the behavior of an unstable person, or a combination of factors.
