Tom Felton, known for playing Draco Malfoy in the films of Harry Potterhe experienced an awkward moment when in the middle of a taped interview his press team did not allow him to answer a question about JK Rowling, the author of the wizarding books.

Felton was interviewed for the 25th anniversary of the publication of the novel “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” when Sky News reporter Claire Gregory asked about the writer’s absence from the anniversary celebrations.

“You and the other stars of the film are still faces in the franchise. We talk and we listen to you. JK is obviously a bit in the back seat now… Would it be strange for her to be present at events like this? ” Gregory asked.

But before Tom could respond, his press team entered the conversation with a curt, “Next question, please.” The interviewee’s face said it all..

After preventing the actor from opening his mouth, his representatives assured them that they “felt it was not relevant” to involve him in the matter.

The curious thing, it is worth remembering, is that Felton was interviewed for the anniversary of a book that Rowling herself wrote.

After the note was finished, members of Tom’s team were asked why they had stopped the round of questions and argued: “JK Rowling is not connected to Warner or Tom Felton, the team felt it was not relevant to the question. Note.”.

We will never know if it was a strategy agreed with the actor himself or if it was the decision of his representatives that prevented Felton from answering the question.

In a subsequent story, Sky News said: “PR should not and shouldn’t, for all kinds of reasons, including freedom of the press, dictate the editorial direction of Sky News.”

On the other hand, in a media tweet with the video of the moment, Sky News said: “Sky’s Claire Gregory was prevented from asking actor Tom Felton a question about JK Rowling.”

The controversy with Rowling

The writer wasn’t even on the special that premiered earlier this year HBO Max for the anniversary of the premiere of the first film in the saga.

Rowling was the big absentee of Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwartsa unique program that brought together, many years later, most of the main cast members and directors of the franchise.

Apparently, the reason was the tension between her and many of the actors. The reason? The author allegedly had to deal with certain transphobic comments that annoyed the cast.

Thus, his appearance in the special was almost that of a concert and was reduced to excerpts from an old video, while the strength of the HBO expedition fell on the shoulders of the protagonists Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint The author, in 2019, it had been a trend of mistreatment in the networks after defending the testimony of a feminist writer who claimed that “men are men, women and girls are women”.

Without going into detail, the matter got complicated when JKR gave several likes to a person who, according to his detractors, is openly TERF: TERF stands for Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists: an anti-trans political and organic which apparently is held with a teardrop line that wants to appear feminist.
