Washington, June 29, 2022 (AFP) – Mexico, the United States, Guatemala and Honduras this Wednesday (29) agreed on a regional response to the plight of more than fifty migrants found dead in San Antonio, USA. Mexican embassy on note.

Representatives of the four countries met at the diplomatic headquarters in Washington and agreed to “work together within their mandate to support the injured and the families of the victims.”

US authorities are investigating the deaths of at least 53 immigrants who traveled as convicts in a truck in Texas despite the scorching heat. Bodies were found in and around the vehicle.

According to Mexico’s National Institute of Migration, the dead include 27 Mexicans, 14 Hondurans, seven Guatemalans and two Salvadorans. The nationalities of the other three people are unknown.

The representatives said they would cooperate with the investigation to punish the perpetrators and “establish an Urgent Action Group to exchange information and work in a coordinated manner to disperse the networks of traffickers.”

They also decided to hold a meeting with the Minister of National Security, Alejandro Majorca, and the foreign ministers of Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras.
