Russian officials lined up to celebrate the overthrow of Boris Johnson on Thursday, with a top businessman calling the British leader a “stupid clown” who finally got his well-deserved reward for arming Ukraine against Russia.

Johnson announced his resignation after being deserted by ministers and lawmakers from the Conservative Party who said he was no longer fit to rule. The Kremlin said it was also not a fan of the British leader, whose parents named him Boris after a Russian immigrant.

“He doesn’t like us, we don’t like him,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Other Russians were tougher.

Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska said on Telegram that this is a “glorious end” for a “stupid clown” whose conscience will be shaken by “tens of thousands of lives in this senseless conflict in Ukraine”.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Johnson’s fall was a symptom of the decline, which he said was torn by the West’s political, ideological and economic crises.

“The moral value of the story is this: don’t try to destroy Russia,” said Zakharova. “Russia cannot be destroyed. You can break your teeth with it and then strangle them.”

Even before Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine on February 24, Johnson repeatedly criticized Putin – describing him as a ruthless and possibly irrational Kremlin boss who endangered the world with his insane ambitions.

After the invasion, Johnson made Britain one of Ukraine’s biggest Western supporters, sending weapons, imposing some of the harshest sanctions in modern history on Russia, and urging Ukraine to defeat the massive Russian Armed Forces.
