A pregnant woman expressed her repudiation after being fined on a route in Texas, United States, for driving in the lane enabled for cars carrying more than one passenger on board. “If a fetus is considered a life before birth, why doesn’t it count as a second passenger?”questioned recalling the annulment of the Roe vs. Wade who repealed the constitutional right to abortion in the country.

Brandy Bottone di Plano is 34 weeks pregnant. On 29 June she went to pick up her son from school. She was driving on US Highway 75 South and when she was heading to Interstate 635 West she was stopped by the police.

“I knew I couldn’t be a minute late, so I took the HOV (high occupancy vehicle) lane. When I exited the HOV, there was a checkpoint at the end of the exit. I pressed the brakes and the police picked me up, “he said. In the statements cited by Daily mail.

“Is anyone else in the car?” he asked her for cash, to which she replied pointing to her belly: “My little girl is right here. She’s a person.” However, the agent replied: “No. They must be two people out of the body.”

At that point, the woman reminded him of the recent reversal of the Roe v. Wade and the state-imposed abortion ban for her benefit.

Last month, the US Supreme Court overturned the landmark ruling that has enshrined the country’s constitutional right to abortion since 1973. The decision ended the right that for decades benefited women from free choice to terminate pregnancy.

“When the officer brushed it off, I said this is a live baby based on everything that’s going on with the Roe vs. Wade reversal. ‘I don’t know why you don’t see it,'” he replied.

According to the woman, the officer “did not want to deal with it” and insisted: “Madam, it means two people out of the body”.

“He gestured for me to talk to the next cop who gave me a quote and said, ‘If you fight, they will most likely drop you.’ But they still gave me a ticket. So my $ 215 fine was that? written to cause inconvenience? This makes my blood boil. How could that be right? Under the new law, this is a life! ”

And he concluded bluntly: “If a fetus is considered a life before birth, why doesn’t it count as a second passenger?”

Although the Texas Penal Code recognizes an unborn child as a person, the Texas Transportation Code does not. By not occupying an additional seat, the vehicle would not meet the criteria required to drive in the HOV lane.

However, Button has warned that he intends to fight the fine when he appears in court later this month.

US President Joe Biden on Friday urged voters, especially women, to vote massively in the upcoming midterm legislative elections in December to counter an “out of control” Supreme Court and “extremist” initiatives.

The White House leader said it was “the fastest way” to restore abortion rights across the country through federal law.

Following the court ruling, seven conservative states have banned access to voluntary termination of pregnancy and many more are likely to follow.

If the Republicans win the election and pass a law banning abortion across the country, the Democratic president has promised he will oppose his veto.
