Ukraine says 15 killed in Russian missile attack on residential building

Ukraine today accused Russia of launching a missile attack on a residential building in Chasiv Yar in the separatist Donetsk region and killing at least 15 people, according to information released by local authorities.

According to the updated balance sheet published by the local unit of Ukraine’s Emergency Service, “During the rescue operations, 15 people were found dead at the scene and five were rescued alive.”

Authorities said rescuers were in contact with three people living under the rubble.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, two entrances to the five-story building were destroyed. Earlier, the agency said the attack killed people, but did not disclose details.

Police and rescue teams started work to save civilians from the rubble.

A few hours ago, the governor of the Donetsk region, Pavlo Kyrylenko, announced that six dead, five injured and 30 people were buried under the rubble.

Also, according to the Ukrainian government, the attack was carried out by firing four missiles, and the Ukrainian authorities initiated a new process by the administration of President Vladimir Putin to investigate war crimes.

The predominantly Russian-speaking Donetsk region has been Moscow’s main target in Ukraine since the Russian army conquered the Lugansk region after heavy fighting in the cities of Severodonetsk and Lyssychansk.

According to Kyrylenko, 591 civilians have been killed and 1,548 injured in the Donetsk region since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24.
