In total, Russian forces are reported to have fired 10 missiles at the site using the Smerch multiple launch missile system created during the time of the Soviet Union. “At 10:20 am today, a missile attack took place in Kharkiv. Smerch was used and 10 launches were recorded. Residential areas were targeted,” said Kirill Timoshenko, deputy director of the presidential office.

Due to the intensification of attacks in the eastern Ukraine region, Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov announced that schools will remain closed as in the first semester and the government will “allow only online classes from September 1”, when will the school year resume.

“With the current rate of bombing, you can’t talk about children going back to schools. The Russians are bombing schools and educational institutions in particular, but Kharkov is resisting,” Terekhov told UNIAN.

On another front in Ukraine, the Donetsk region is also suffering from intense bombing and fighting.

The Ukrinform portal reported that the death toll in the Russian attack on a residential building in Chasiv Yar on Sunday (10) rose to 19. According to the Ukrainians, the action was carried out with Uragan missiles and dozens of people remained under the rubble.

After conquering the neighboring Lugansk region, also located in Donbass, Russia has directed most of its military action towards cities in Donetsk, where pro-Russian separatist groups have been operating since 2014.
