One of the most luxurious hotels in Russia’s capital, the Ritz-Carlton, has been renamed Carlton Moscow this Monday (11). The move comes after parent company Marriott International ceased operations in the country due to the Russian attack.

According to the statement made by Russian agencies, the facility will operate as an “independent hotel”. Until now, it was managed by the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, a subsidiary of the Marriott Group.

Located on Moscow’s main street, Tverskaya, with impressive views of the Kremlin, its gardens and Red Square, the hotel now uses a new logo and website, but has not announced any financial transitions.

In March, the hotel giant closed its offices and suspended new projects after Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

On June 3, it announced that all of its operations in the Russian market were suspended on the grounds that it was “impossible” to operate due to “restrictions announced by the US, UK and EU”. Russia.

Marriott’s departure added to a long list of Western companies that left Russia after the February 24 attack on Ukraine. The list includes McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Nike, Starbucks and Renault.

The consequences of Russian sanctions are still difficult to predict, but some sectors that employ hundreds of thousands of Russians are already affected by serious logistical and financial problems.

By contrast, Russia thinks the country is resisting sanctions.
