While the number of civilians killed in a Russian missile attack on a building in the town of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine rose to 26, 9 people were rescued alive from the rubble.
“As of 14:30 local time, rescuers of the main department found and pulled 26 dead from the wreckage, nine people were rescued from the wreckage. Facebook reported by the Ukrainian news agency “Ukrinform”.
The State Emergency Service had previously reported that “about 20 people, including a 9-year-old child, may be under the rubble” of the bombed residential building in the town of Chasiv Yar.
According to sources, the civilian building was hit by a Russian missile.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also spoke about the attack launched by the Russian army on Sunday.
In his usual evening conversation on the social network Telegram, Zelensky said that the Russian missile attack was carried out against two destroyed skyscrapers in the city.
According to the president, rescue teams continue to work to find and rescue the people trapped under the rubble.
“Unfortunately, the death toll is not the final figure,” he said.
Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that his country’s army was “firm and repulsed attacks from different directions” and questioned the “alleged operational pause” in the actions of Russian invaders in the Donbass and other parts of Ukraine last week.
“One answer to anyone who invented (speaks) this ‘pause’ is the 34 attacks made by Russian aviation in the last 24 hours,” the President of Ukraine said, before asking the citizens to unite: “Only we can stand in this war together, we are absolutely all Ukrainians”.
