A little more than two months after the massacre in Texas, a new wave of indignation has taken over Uvalde after the images of a security camera of the Robb first schoolwhere you can see the armed shooter’s entrance into the building and, subsequently, the late inertia of police officerswho remained in the corridor for over an hour 19 children and two teachers were killed.
The video released by the local Austin American-Statesman newspaper shows a disturbing aspect 80 minute recording, which begins with the entry of the young attacker with an AR-15 type rifle. As he approaches the classrooms, a student can be seen watching the entire sequence from behind and start running when he hears the first shots.
Just three minutes later, a dozen armed police officers appear and approach the scene. However, they quickly move away when the shooter pulls the trigger again. Lately 77 minutes after the start of the massacre, a group of troops break down the door and kill the attacker.
The truth is that the reaction of the police has been at the center of the controversy from the beginning. Without going any further, Pete Arredondo, the officer in charge of the proceedings, was granted administrative leave.
Texas School Massacre: It took 77 minutes for the police to walk into the classroom and kill the killer.
But the images, which until now had not been released, led the residents and, above all, the relatives of the victims to once again express their disagreement and redouble their efforts to ask for explanations, seven weeks after the massacre that took place on May 24. .
Rep. Dustin Burrows, a Republican in charge of the investigation, said after the Statesman posted the video that “seeing the entire police response, or lack of response, segment is also important.”
Texas school massacre: police operation unknown
By itself, the video doesn’t answer all the remaining questions about the police reaction. One is like the school district police chief, Pietro Arredondowas at the forefront of the massive police response which was attended by several local, state and federal agencies.

State authorities indicated Arredondo as the commander at the scene of the incident and said his mistakes delayed the police response to take down the assailant. However, Arredondo told the Texas Tribune he did not consider himself responsible for the operations and that he assumed that someone else had taken control of the police response. He didn’t have a police radio with him at the time.
An assessment of the police response written by tactical experts at the request of the Public Security Department ensured last week that a Uvalde police officer had the opportunity to shoot the assailant before he entered the school, although the version has not yet been confirmed.
In a statement, Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw said the video provides “a horrendous evidence ” that the police response was a failure.
