Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton openly admitted in an interview with “CNN” on Tuesday that US governments have recently aided coups in other countries (12).
The representative served as an adviser during the administration of former President Donald Trump (2017-2021), but has served at the height of US politics, the Department of Justice and State, and has been involved in all governments since the 1980s. since that time. He left the former president’s government in 2019.
Journalist Jake Trapper asked Bolton if Trump was trying to stage a coup against the United States for the January 6, 2021 invasion of the Capitol, and Bolton implied that the former president could not take the “carefully planned” action.
“I do not agree [golpe de Trump]. As someone who helped plan the coups, there is a lot of work, not here, but, you know, in other countries. HE [Trump] He was jumping from one idea to another and eventually unleashed the protesters against the Capitol, no doubt about it. But it was Donald Trump who was interested in Donald Trump.”
The former representative also stated that what happened in January 2021 was “not an attack on democracy” and a “once in a lifetime” fact.
When asked which international actions he was referring to, the former adviser said he “could not go into specific details”.
Trapper then questioned Venezuela and the US government’s support for the opposition Juan Guaidó against Nicolás Maduro.
“It didn’t do well there. Not because we had a lot of work to do, but I saw how much effort the opposition tried to illegally impeach an elected president and fail,” he said.
The journalist also tried to get more information, saying, “Bolton didn’t seem to be telling everything,” to which the former counselor replied, “definitely has.”
The United States has been called the financier or organizer of coups in Latin America on several occasions – as in Brazil in 1964, as documents prove that then-President Lyndon Johnson was forewarned of what was going to happen here.
The Americans also helped overthrow the Iranian government of then President Mohammad Mossadeq in 1953. Bolton was one of the main voices in the invasion of Iraq (2003-2011) against Saddam Hussein’s so-called chemical weapons, which turned out to be a lie and advocated the US “bombing” North Korea and Iran.
Also, in November 2018, Bolton paid an official visit to the home of President Jair Bolsonaro.
