A teacher from California, on the west coast of the United States, caused controversy after replacing the national flag with one of LGBT pride in her class. She happened at the Back Bay School, in the municipality of Costa Mesa, where the teacher was finally fired from her position for suggesting that students swear allegiance to the gay flag.

The teacher, identified in the reports as Kristin Pitzenclaimed in a video shared on TikTok in August 2021 that they can swear allegiance to the LGBT flag in lieu of the national flag.

The video, removed from the platform but uploaded by a Twitter user, shows Pitzen laughing out loud how his classroom dynamics work without the American flag.

The story, which is not current, has returned viral these days.

Pitzer posted a video on TikTok a month ago and the controversy arose.

Then he whispers that he lowered the American flag in his class because it “made her uncomfortable.” So when her students asked her for information, she says that even if there is no national flag, they can stand up and take the pledge of allegiance to the flag of pride.

“I put it away and I don’t know where, and I haven’t found it yet,” Pitzen continued with a laugh. When a student asked her which badge they would swear allegiance to, the teacher made it clear. “There is already a flag in the room that you can swear allegiance to,” she said of the LGBT banner.

The Newport-Mesa Unified School District said in a statement that the teacher was expelled. As the event went viral, an investigation was launched against the teacher and even some student representatives went to school to protest what Pitzen had done.

California education authorities have sanctioned Pitzer.

“While we don’t discuss employee matters, we can tell you that showing respect and honor for our nation’s flag is a value we instill in our students and an expectation for our employees. We take issues like this seriously and are taking steps to address them, ”a school district spokesperson told NBC Los Angeles.

In a previous video shared on his Twitter account, Pitzen had already displayed many Gay Pride flags in his classroom during Pride Month wearing stud shooters and rainbow hoops.

“I’ll never stop being awkward, it’s fun for me,” Pitzen said during his self-guided tour of the class. “Happy pride everyone, it’s June 1st, the beginning of the month of pride, this is what I have in my class … I swear allegiance to gays”.
