On CNN, John Bolton, a former US security adviser, said Tuesday that he “helped plan” coups, saying it “takes a lot of work.”

Sometimes you don’t have to say it all on TV. Republican John Bolton probably got this on Tuesday. On the set of CNN, the former adviser to several US presidents (Donald Trump in 2018-2019 and George W. Bush between 2001 and 2005) stated that he had “helped plan” several coups.

The former close friend of Trump, who has distanced himself from the billionaire, was invited to comment on the House Committee hearings on the attack on Capitol Hill,

“As someone who has helped plan hits, not here, but you know, in other places, it takes a lot of work,” John Bolton said.

John Bolton thus argues that the assault on January 6, 2021 was not an attempted coup by Donald Trump, who “was just changing from one idea to another.”

“I will not go into details”

Known for his warmongering positions in diplomacy, John Bolton, who served as White House national security adviser in 2018 before being fired by the Republican president in September 2019, did not specify which coups he was referring to. “I’m not going to go into details,” he said.

But he was referring to the failed attempt to remove Nicolás Maduro from power in Venezuela in 2019 by opposition leader Juan Guaidó, who had the backing of Washington.

Along with the neoconservatives, John Bolton, very tough on Iran, Afghanistan and North Korea, was notably one of the architects of the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
