In a security declaration signed with Israel on Thursday, President Joe Biden said the United States would use “all the means of its national power” to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
In a document signed by Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid in Jerusalem, the two countries “reaffirm their unbreakable ties” and the United States expresses “its enduring commitment to Israel’s security.”
In the statement, Washington promised to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
In this joint US-Israel Strategic Partnership statement signed in Jerusalem, it is stated that the US stressed that “it is willing to use all the means of its national power to secure this goal”.
During the bilateral meeting, Lapid said that the fight with Iran is the most important issue in the talks.
“The United States reiterates its commitment to maintain and strengthen Israel’s ability to deter its enemies and defend itself against any threat or combination of threats,” the joint statement said.
The agreement was signed on the second day of Biden’s visit to Israel, during his first visit to the Middle East as president.
When asked if the United States is ready to make diplomatic efforts with Iran, Biden said his administration has set the terms for restoring the deal on Tehran’s nuclear program.
“We won’t wait forever” for Iran to respond, he said.
After meeting with senior Israeli government officials today, Biden will meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday.
He then travels to Saudi Arabia, which is considered Iran’s biggest regional rival.
