World Bank, IMF and WTO call for support to countries affected by food boom

World Bank leaders, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other global organizations advocated increased support for countries most affected by the global rise in a joint statement released this Friday. Food prices since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In the note, leaders urge the international community to work to expand the resources of the Global Food Program (WFP), avoid restrictions on global food trade, expand production and invest in climate-resilient agriculture.

“Ensuring that the most vulnerable countries facing significant balance of payments problems can afford to raise their food import bills is crucial to minimizing any risk of social unrest.”

The note was signed by the heads of the WFP and the Food and Agriculture Organization (WBG), as well as the leaders of the World Bank, IMF and WTO.
