Although the trip did not appear to present problems, several sources assured that a few minutes before the crash the pilot had reported a engine malfunction, then he asked for permission for an emergency landing.

Given this situation, from the control rooms they gave him two airport options: to land in that of the city of Thessaloniki or Kavala. The latter was chosen, because it was the closest.

However, he could not reach any of the runways, as one of his propellers caught fire and crashed the ship 40 kilometers west of the airport located in the aforementioned Greek city.

Based on initial information about the incident, eight crew members were traveling on the plane and at the moment neither their status nor the cargo they were carrying is known.

The shocking moment was captured by a group of neighbors who from a distance saw the moment when the plane destabilized and fell within seconds, causing a huge noise and fire in the area.

Witnesses said they saw a fireball and heard several explosions after the plane crashed, a fact that led them to speculate that they were carrying explosives.

Similarly, the intelligence agency indicated that numerous fire rescuers, National Emergency Center (EKAB) ambulances and police officers are working on the scene and that the area is dark due to a power outage.
