Clouds of smoke and fire have spread to the Ukrainian cities of Mykolaiv, Kharkiv and Odessa in the past two days. Russia, which has occupied the neighboring country since February, claimed responsibility for the bombings. Ukrainian police have yet to report any injuries or possible deaths.
According to the Euronews television network, the Ukrainian official said the attacks were carried out with “missiles aimed at military infrastructure”. The bombings also hit Pokrovsk in the pro-Russian separatist Donetsk region.
According to the company’s theory, the Russians want to isolate this separatist region, including Luhansk, in order to provide a pass from Moscow to Moldova, where a Russian military base is located.
Amid the bombings and suspicious leaks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sacked Secret Service chief and longtime friend Ivan Bakanov tonight (Kyiv time).
Prosecutor General Iryna Venicetova, who led the prosecution of Russia’s alleged war crimes in Ukraine, was dismissed today. Both impeachments were posted on the president’s official website.
Zelensky said on Telegram that he made the decision because the employees of these two services conveyed a lot of information and “cooperated” with Russia.
The president of Ukraine claimed that 651 cases of treason were opened against employees of the prosecutor’s office and the police. “Each of these questions will get an adequate answer,” he said.
Zelensky appointed Oleksiy Symonenko as the new Prosecutor General by a separate executive order, which was also posted on the president’s website.
