While 376 agents were present at the Robb de Uvalde school on May 24, 73 minutes elapsed between the arrival of the first police officers and the death of the murderer. An “unacceptable” delay, the parliamentarians denounce this Sunday.

A “chaotic” situation, absence of command, “apathetic” agents: a Texas parliamentary investigation set this Sunday all the police services involved in the response to the massacre at the Uvalde school, which left 21 dead on May 24.

According to this report, which refuses to incriminate some policemen and not others, the policemen “did not respect their training” and “did not put the lives of innocent victims before their own safety.”

A total of 376 officers — border guards, state and municipal police, local sheriff’s departments or elite forces — intervened at Robb Elementary School, Texas House elected officials reveal in a preliminary investigative report.

“Lack of Command”

But between the arrival of the first police officers and the murderer’s death, 73 minutes elapsed, an “unacceptable” delay linked to “an absence of command that may have contributed to the loss of life,” they write.

Although it is ‘likely that most of the victims died immediately after the first shots’, some died during their transport to hospital and it is ‘plausible’ that they could have survived if they had been rescued more quickly, they still say.

Texas Public Safety Director Steven McCraw previously called the law enforcement response an “absolute failure,” focusing his criticism on Uvalde School District Police Chief Pete Arredondo, who has since been discontinued.

“The attitude of all the agents was apathy”

“He did not assume his responsibility as commander” and made analysis errors because he did not have all the information, Texan parliamentarians also believe.

More personne n’a proposé de l’aider ni de le replacer, notent-ils: “l’attitude de tous les agents était apathique”, “la scène était chaotique, sans que personne ne soit clairement en charge ou en train de direct the answer”.

Their conclusions were presented to the relatives of the victims who, for weeks, lamented the lack of transparency of the authorities, suspected of wanting to cover up the failures of the police.

Criticism mounted after the release this week of an almost excruciating video showing the shooter arriving at the scene with an assault rifle, then officers waiting long in a school hallway.
