An 80-year-old woman died this week after being attacked by two alligators, reports the New York Times this Sunday. The victim, whose name has not been communicated by the authorities, fell around 8:00 p.m. this Friday in a pond located near a golf course and near her home, the police said. Miami Herald.
Authorities pulled the two alligators out of the water. Florida’s state wildlife agency said he will work with police “on this investigation until the medical examiner’s office determines the cause of death.”
Several attacks in recent years
The American chain ABC highlights that fatal alligator attacks are “rare” in the United States. Between 1948 and 2021, Florida reported 442 “alligator bite” incidents, 26 of which resulted in death. In 2018, a 45-year-old woman was killed by an alligator while she was walking her dog.
Over the past ten years, Florida has averaged 8 incidents that “required medical treatment.”
