Several Western European countries, including France and Spain, continued to fight against devastating forest firestriggered by a heat wave that could break temperature records in the coming days.
According to scientists, there is a direct relationship between heat waves and the climate changeas greenhouse gas emissions increase in intensity, duration and frequency.
In Spain, around 20 forest fires were still active and out of control in different parts of the country, from south to north.
In Galicia (northwest) the fires devastated some 4,500 hectares during the week, according to authorities.

And in the province of Malaga, in Andalusia (south), the fire brigades managed to stabilize a fire in the Sierra de Mijas, which destroyed some 2,000 hectares, local authorities said.

Greece and France

According to the meteorological agency Météo-France, temperatures could reach 40ºC in that area. On Sunday, 51 departments were under orange surveillance for high temperatures and 15 under red surveillance, the highest.

And in the Netherlands, the organizers of a four-day hiking trail canceled the first day of the event which was supposed to start on Tuesday due to extreme heat.
On Tuesday, mercury will reach 38ºC in some areas of the country.
