The vote to choose the new Conservative leader and next British Prime Minister is taking shape and this Tuesday was reduced to three. Former finance minister Risi Sunak won with 118 votes, the second was Penny Mordaunt with 92 and the third was Chancellor Luz Truss. Kemi Badenoch was eliminated with 59 votes.

The new vote will take place this Wednesday at the same time, before this competition ends between two candidates, who will have to campaign among conservative militants to be elected.

When Prime Minister Boris Johnson celebrated this Tuesday his last cabinet meeting and his ministers gave him a series of the first six editions of Winston Churchill, his idol, the choice to replace him became vicious and toxic.

This vote is the penultimate lap and Kemi Badenoch is one of four candidates eliminated to reach the final vote, where only two candidates will remain. The final winner must be chosen by the party’s conservative affiliates.

The “Creator King” – as he is called in these cases – is the Brexitier Nigerian-born and former investment banker, Kemi Bademoch. His 58 votes on Monday and 59 on Tuesday are the ones that will decide the fate of the winner, just like those who voted for former military man Tom Tugendhat.

The next big fight will be between Penny Mordaunt and Chancellor Liz Truss.

But on this vote, an “all but Liz” group, the chancellor, has formed. They consider it “the continuity of Boris Johnson”.

The bell

Although Rishi Sunak is the winner of this contest so far, it is he who must win the hearts of the conservative militants, who will ultimately elect the leader and prime minister when the last two candidates face off.

A You Gov poll shows that Kemi Badenoch can beat all rivals among Tory militants in the final runoff and Rishi Sunak could lose to everyone in her militants’ vote.

Sunak will have a hard time earning Tory membership if he clashes with Liz Truss, Penny Mordaunt or Kemi Badenoch, according to a new YouGov poll among Tory members, and that gives Chancellor a boost Brexitier.

Penny Mordaunt’s solid lead in last week’s Tory members poll slipped. She now loses narrowly against Chancellor Truss and Badenoch. This occurs in the middle of a frantic exchange of supports.

forecasts

The poll of YouGov’s conservative militant members was conducted on Monday and Tuesday, following the second of two televised debates on Sunday evening.

Chancellor Truss beats the ex chancellor of finance, Rishi Sunak from 53% to 35% and beats Penny Mordaunt from 48% to 42%. But she would be beaten by Badenoch by 43% to 46%.

Sunak not only loses against Truss, but also against Mordaunt from 37% to 57% and Badenoch from 34% to 56%.

Mordaunt would lose to Truss by 42% to 48% and lose to Badenoch by 43% to 48%, according to polls.

Liz Truss received the support of the Ukrainian government. She promised that she would increase defense spending to 3% of GDP by 2030 to address “a dangerous world” and the Russian and Chinese threat.
