A virus that does not stop at borders, except for a few apparently. Micronesia, a small Pacific state, is no longer one of the few countries free of Covid, after the confirmation of cases on two of its islands.
With the exception of some isolated and quarantined border cases, the Federated States of Micronesia had so far escaped the covid epidemic thanks to its geographical location, some 1,600 kilometers north of Papua New Guinea.
Not taking into account certain territories such as the Pitcairn Islands, Tokelau or Saint Helena, there is now only one country that has never reported the slightest case of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic: Turkmenistan. If North Korea formalized its first case on May 12, the country has been concerned every time since then to mention cases of “fever”, as well as illnesses and deaths related to it.
No cases, but doses of vaccine administered
According to the official WHO website, Turkmenistan has not registered any cases of Covid-19 on its territory. However, this is the official version given by the authorities of this country managed by the father-son duo Berdimouhamedov. At the same time, more than 7 million doses of vaccines have been administered to the Turkmen population as of March 6, 2022.
A country that claims to have no pollution and protects itself from it. Two and a half years after the start of the health crisis and although most countries have since reopened their borders, it is still impossible to travel to Turkmenistan.
“No regular air links currently connect Turkmenistan with the rest of the world and the issuance of visas for Turkmenistan has been suspended by the Turkmen authorities until further notice,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs finally specifies.
