The Kremlin on Thursday denied rumors that Russian President Vladimir Putin is in good health and not well.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that there has been speculation in the West about the health of the Russian president in recent months, but reports that he is sick are “nothing but fake”.

Putin coughed during a public appearance on Wednesday when he quoted Interfax news agency as saying he had caught a mild cold during a visit to Iran the day before.

According to the agency, 69-year-old Putin said, “Yesterday was very hot in Tehran, plus 38 degrees Celsius and the air conditioning was very strong. So I apologize.” said.

International scrutiny of his health has intensified in recent months, including when he was photographed meeting foreign and Russian officials while sitting at opposite sides of long tables as a precaution against Covid-19. At times, he also seemed to walk steadily.

The CIA director, US Central Intelligence Agency William Burns, was asked about the issue at a US security forum on Wednesday and said Putin was “totally too healthy”.
