The former head of state called on French elected officials to take inspiration from the United States, which revived a World War II law to speed up arms shipments to Ukraine.

The call goes out again. Ukraine’s former president, Petro Poroshenko, has again called on Westerners to send more weapons to Kyiv’s forces to defeat the Russians, five months after the invasion began.

“In my experience on the ground, there are never enough weapons when there is a war of this magnitude,” he said.

“We need weapons and the sooner these weapons are delivered, the closer victory will be,” he said.

“The attacks are numerous” and “the fighting is more intense,” said the former head of state, while the Russian forces continue their offensive. A new attack in Kharkiv left at least 3 dead and 23 wounded on Thursday morning.

“A turning point”

Petro Poroshenko, however, was pleased to see that “the Ukrainian (ammunition) stock is growing”, while that of Moscow is, according to him, in difficulties. “According to our information, Moscow has already used 60% of its stock of ammunition and 70% of its stock of shells,” he said.

“The situation is at a turning point,” he said, assuring that the Ukrainians “can respond” to Russian attacks, thanks to Western deliveries.

The former president took the opportunity to thank France for its military help, and in particular the shipment of Caesar cannons. “We really have to take inspiration from the American example,” however, he called, referring to the military assistance law dating from World War II reactivated by the US Congress last May to speed up the shipment of military equipment to Ukraine. .

A “maniac for human life”

Faced with the threat of a new Russian offensive, the former Ukrainian president showed determination. “We are not afraid,” he said, calling Vladimir Putin a “maniac for human life.”

“Mr. Lavrov is a war criminal,” Petro Poroshenko also threw in the direction of the head of Russian diplomacy, considering that “his hands are stained with Ukrainian blood.”

Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday that Russia’s targets are no longer limited to eastern Ukraine and could extend beyond Donbass.
