(Reuters) – Ukraine’s Defense Ministry asked citizens of a key region captured by Russia on Saturday to disclose where Moscow troops live and who among the local population is cooperating with the occupation authorities.
In the statement made by the intelligence directorate of the ministry, the people in and around the city of Enerhodar in the south of Ukraine, which is home to a large nuclear power plant, were addressed.
In the statement, it was stated that “Please immediately inform us the exact location and residence addresses of the bases of the occupation troops… and the places of residence of the General Staff,” and that exact coordinates were requested.
The statement also asked for details of “local collaborators who went over to the enemy side”, including where they lived and worked, as well as “people who ‘sympathize’ with the occupiers”.
Russia captured Enerhodar in early March, and in May the city’s Russian-appointed chief was injured in an explosion. The Kremlin described the incident as a “terrorist attack”.
The pre-war population of Enerhodar was over 50,000. Many residents work at two power plants near the city, one of which is the Zaporizhzhia power plant, Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.
