The former US president, who spoke at an act of the think tank America First Policy Institute, especially praised the repressive policy of certain countries in the fight against drug trafficking.

“Sounds awful doesn’t it? But you know what? They are the ones who don’t have a problem, they haven’t been in court for fifteen years, they go fast,” said the person who intends to take revenge in 2024.

“You execute a drug dealer and save 5,000 lives. […] It is terrible to say it, but you look at the countries that do not have drug problems and you see that they are the ones that impose the death penalty on those who sell drugs,” he continued.

“We are going to end this scourge”

As in a speech earlier this month, the former White House tenant notably returned to an exchange with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on this issue: “I asked him ‘do you have a drug problem?’ He replied ‘No, no, why are you asking me this question?

“We are going to put an end to this scourge,” Donald Trump assured, “these drug traffickers should and should receive the death penalty.”

The former White House tenant had made similar comments in 2018, when he was president of the United States, but in a private setting.

This speech marked the return of the 45th US president to the US capital, a year and a half after his tumultuous departure from the White House and the capture of the Capitol in January 2021. The Republican billionaire, who made no secret of his intentions to run in the next presidential elections, however, he has not formalized his candidacy.
