The United States Department of Justice is investigating former President Donald Trump’s behavior in trying to sabotage the outcome of the 2020 election, won by Democrat Joe Biden.

According to The Washington Post, federal investigators are analyzing the Republican’s speeches and have collected phone data from some of his closest aides.

Also, witnesses have already been questioned about episodes that occurred between December 2020 and January 2021.

Investigators are reportedly keeping an eye on instructions given by Trump to try to prevent confirmation of Biden’s electoral victory, including calls for allies to introduce fake voters into Democratic-winning states.

The US Department of Justice is already conducting an investigation into the invasion of Congress by Trump supporters on January 6, 2021, but the former president is not yet officially under investigation.

To date, no former US presidents have been indicted, a hypothesis that will resonate in the 2024 election race and likely Trump will be in the race.

In recent weeks, a congressional committee investigating the Capitol Hill robbery noted that Republicans chose not to take action to stop the January 6 invasion.

“Trump sat and watched the heist on TV. He did nothing, chose not to do anything,” said Republican Adam Kinzinger, a member of the committee.

Even the businessman’s sons, Ivanka and Eric Trump, pressured their father to stop the uprising, but to no avail, according to Democrat Bennie Thompson, who was also a member of the commission. “Trump tried to destroy our democratic institutions,” he said.
