London – After being ostracized for more than six months, former CNN host Chris Cuomo has announced that he is resuming his professional career in the media, swept away by a scandal involving helping his brother ex-governor Andrew Cuomo, who faced sexual harassment allegations and resigned.

The 51-year-old journalist, who runs one of the most watched programs on American television, has released a podcast and will work for NewsNation, a small network owned by the Nexstar Media group. How the participation, which will start in October, will be, has not yet been announced by the publisher.

The exit was turbulent, throwing the American network into crisis and leading to the resignation of global CEO Jeff Zucker in February.

The executive resigned from the network after revealing a secret affair with the company’s marketing director, Allison Gollust, who was also fired. While she denies the breakups were motivated by the Cuomo brothers’ lawsuit, both stemmed from an internal investigation conducted on CNN that was initiated because of the former anchor.

Cuomo was not happy with the dismissal and started a legal battle to get $125 million for wrongful termination.

He has now found a professional spot on a smaller channel, part of a group that specializes in regional media. In recent months, it has made a series of acquisitions to strengthen its market presence.

In the interview, he denied once again that he had done anything wrong, but admitted that he had spoken to journalists covering the sexual harassment case involving his brother to find out what they knew.

“I have never contacted any journalist who has covered my brother’s case to try to influence the news,” Cuomo said. ‘I talk to people in the media all the time. They are the majority of my relationships,” he said.

The former host said that there is a difference between asking about the news and trying to influence stories, and said, “I think we’ll find that difference during the trial.”

Although he continued to deny it, transcripts, video interviews, and text messages released by the New York Attorney General’s Office showed that Chris Cuomo used media connections inside and outside of CNN to learn about plotted stories about his brother’s abuse.

Cuomo said in the interview that despite the turmoil and lawsuit with CNN, he still has his love for his brother. He talked about how difficult it was to get through the situation he faced, including leaving the company without a chance to say goodbye to the team.

The former presenter praised CNN’s global reach and said she was fully aware of the importance of her work.

New life for journalist in a small channel

Chris Cuomo’s new professional home isn’t as close as CNN’s reach. His show on Warner-owned network ‘Cuomo Prime Time’ reached an average of 2 million nightly viewers in 2020.

NewsNation’s prime time headline, NewsNation Prime, only averaged 46,000 viewers last year.

Cuomo praised NewsNation for “believing in the work” with his new podcast, the Chris Cuomo Project.

“I look forward to building something special here – covering the news wherever it is and having conversations that address the concerns of ordinary people,” he said.

NewsNation describes itself as ‘America’s unbiased news outlet’ but is seen as leaning towards the right. A position contrasting that of Cuomo, who has always aligned with the Democratic party and was one of the harshest critics of former President Donald Trump on the CNN show.

The head of the channel, Michael Corn, would personally negotiate the hiring of the journalist.

Corn previously worked for ABC’s Good Morning America, where two former employees accused him of sexual assault and promoting a toxic work environment. The lawsuit was filed earlier this year, more than a year after she was hired by NewsNation.

While launching the podcast, Chris Cuomo also defended himself against accusations of violating CNN’s policy, reaffirming that helping his brother is a family commitment.
