Journalist Marina Ovsiannikova, who is known for interrupting a news program on Russian state television with a poster against the attack in Ukraine, was fined on Thursday (28th) for re-denying the conflict.

An AFP journalist said a Moscow court fined 50,000 rubles (about 800 euros or dollars) for “discrediting” the Russian military.

The journalist is accused of saying that the operation in Ukraine was a “crime”, telling reporters at the trial of imprisoned dissident Ilya Yashin on 13 July. The 44-year-old reporter was briefly detained in the Moscow region four days later.

Ovsiannikova rose to prominence in March when she appeared on the news on a pro-Kremlin television station she worked for. She unfurled a banner denouncing the attack in Ukraine and the “propaganda” of the government-controlled media. She was then briefly detained and released with a fine.
