Crash in Austria. A doctor has committed suicide after receiving death threats from anti-vaccination activists and Covid-19 conspiracy theorists, Reuters reported on Saturday. The Austrian Executive calls to stop “hate” messages.
“Let’s put an end to these alarmist comments and these attempts at intimidation. Hate and intolerance have no place in Austria,” Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen condemned.
Lisa-Marie Kellermayr was a familiar face in the fight against Covid-19 in her country, regularly giving interviews to Austrian television notably highlighting the merits of vaccination against the virus.
“Threatened” even in his office
The Austrian president paid tribute to the doctor for her commitment in the fight against the virus and for her cautious approach to the pandemic.
On the contrary, she condemned the people who “scared her, threatened her, first on the Internet and then personally, going directly to her office.”
According to Austrian media, he had to temporarily close his office, when he had to spend between 8,000 and 10,000 euros a month on security guards, due to the threats he was receiving.
Lisa-Marie Kellermayr was found dead in her office in the Upper Austria region on Friday. According to Austrian media, a letter was found near her body in which she explains her gesture.
