A boat trip has become an unforgettable memory for tourists who have been nearly swallowed by a whale. As in the Pinocchio story, a humpback whale nearly swallowed two women.
When they least expected something happened that few tourists can see: a huge whale approached the group, but it was not to greet them.
Apparently the whale wanted a bite and, without thinking twice, devoured the travelers. The good thing is, seconds later she released them.
Julie McSorley, one of the women attacked by the humpback whale.
Julie McSorley and Liz Cottriel They were kayaking on Avila beach when the whale surfaced and let them into its mouth.
Both were ejected into the water and taken to a local medical center. Fortunately they were not injured and were released.
Liz Cottriel was in a kayak and was attacked by the whale.
According to National Geographic, although reports of people ending up in the mouths of whales are extremely rare, swallowing a human is physically impossible for all but one species of whale. In the case of humpback whales, the size of their throats is meant for small fish, so while females may get injured, they would not have been swallowed by the animal.
The video, which has now gone viral, is from 2020 in a place in California where whales usually rise to the surface to feed.
Characteristics of the humpback whale
The humpback whale is a robust cetacean with an average length of 15 meters for males and 19 meters for females and an average weight of between 30 and 40 tons for both sexes with up to 48 tons. The humpback whale gets its name from the “hump” that forms in diving, in front of its small, low and fleshy dorsal fin which can be triangular, located in the posterior third of its back.
A cosmopolitan species, it is found in all oceans, with well-marked migratory routes of thousands of kilometers that often bring the whale very close to the coast, but it also travels in deep water during migration. Found in the coastal or continental shelf waters at high latitudes in summer where it feeds in the cold, productive waters of the Southern Ocean. In winter it migrates to breeding and nursery areas in tropical and subtropical waters.
Pinocchio and the whale
Geppeto, going to look for Pinocchio at sea, was swallowed by a huge whale.
Pinocchio, with the help of the cricket, went to sea to save him. When Pinocchio was in front of the whale, he asked him to return his father, but the whale opened its mouth wide and swallowed him too.
Inside the whale’s belly, Geppetto and Pinocchio met again. And they began to think about how to get out of it. And thanks to Jiminy Cricket they found a way out. They started a fire. The fire made the huge whale sneeze, and the raft flew off with its three crew members. They were all safe.
Pinocchio went home and to school, and from that day on he always behaved well. And in exchange for his kindness, the good fairy turned him into a child of flesh and blood, and they were very happy for many years.
