Cambodia’s capital is also home to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who will also attend the meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. However, bilateral meetings are not planned.

Pelosi has already traveled from Taiwan, where she is with the island’s president, Tsai Ing-wen, second only to US presidential successor after Vice President Kamala Harris.

The congress leader’s visit has escalated tensions in the region as Chinese troops are deployed in areas closest to the island, which have an autonomous government and have no official relations with the United States.
