North Korea denounced Nancy Pelosi’s visit to the demilitarized zone between the two Koreas on Saturday, calling the US deputy chief “the worst destroyer of international peace and stability.”

Nancy Pelosi, who stopped in South Korea this week during her Asia tour, was the highest-ranking US official to visit the “Joint Security Area” (JSA) since 2019, when then-President Donald Trump met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. there.

The JSA is the only place, along the 250-kilometer ultra-fortified demarcation line between North and South Korea, where North Korean soldiers and members of the United Nations contingent face each other mere meters apart, united led by the United States. Joined.

“America is just adding fuel to the fire”

Before going to the JSA, Nancy Pelosi and her South Korean counterpart, Kim Jin-pyo, had called in Seoul for “a strong and comprehensive deterrence against North Korea.”

Nancy Pelosi’s visit to the JSA “completely unmasks the current US administration’s hostile view of the DPRK” (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the official name of North Korea, editor’s note), said Jo Yong Sam, an official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Korea. .

“The United States is simply adding fuel to the fire,” he added in a statement carried by the official KCNA news agency.

This official also criticized Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.

“Pelosi, the worst destroyer of international peace and stability, … has provoked the anger of the Chinese people by her recent trip to Taiwan,” said Jo Yong Sam. “The United States will have to pay dearly for all the trouble that caused wherever he went,” he continued.
