Several officials appointed by Moscow in the crosshairs of the attacks

In recent months, several Russian-appointed officials in the Ukrainian territories they conquered have come under attack.

Since a large part of the Kherson region and part of the Zaporijjia region have been taken over, the Kremlin has been pursuing a policy of Russification there with a view to possible annexation. Moscow introduced the ruble there and encourages its inhabitants to receive Russian passports.

At the same time, the Ukrainian army has been conducting counter-offensives on the Kherson front for several weeks. It has managed to regain ground and close in on this city of 290,000 people, but has yet to penetrate deep into the Russian defenses.
