Within minutes of the entry into force of the truce between the Hebrew State and the Islamic Jihad, the Israeli army announced that it had carried out incursions into Gaza in “response to the fired rockets” before retracting.

A truce that lasted only a few minutes. The ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Islamic Jihad on Sunday had little effect.

After three days of violent exchanges of fire in the Gaza enclave, the two sides had reached an agreement on Sunday night under the aegis of Egypt to stop the raids.

Minutes after the truce came into force, at 11:30 p.m. local time, the army initially reported having attacked positions of the Palestinian armed group.

But in a second press release, he corrected his statements by claiming to have carried out these raids “at 11:25 p.m. local time.” “It was the last attack by the army before a ceasefire scheduled for 11:30 pm,” he said.

“End this bloodshed”

In the truce agreement, the Hebrew State and the Islamic Jihad had both specified “reserving the right to respond firmly” in case of aggression of the ceasefire by one of the two parties.

Yaël German, Israel’s ambassador to France, a guest this Sunday night on BFMTV, explains “being particularly concerned, because we would like to put an end to this useless bloodshed.”

In the Gaza Strip, 17 Palestinians, including nine children, were killed this Sunday in Israeli raids, including in Jabaliya, Gaza City and Rafah, said the Ministry of Health of the Palestinian armed movement Hamas, in power in this enclave under Israeli blockade. for more than 15 years.

Since the start of the Israeli operation against Islamic Jihad in the impoverished enclave on Friday, “43 Palestinians have been martyred, including 15 children” and “311 have been injured”, according to a latest report from the ministry, which made in addition to the state of Entire buildings destroyed in the strikes.

Hundreds of rockets fired from Gaza

“We have made it very clear that fire will lead to fire. We want the ceasefire to be respected. We will do everything in our power to fight back and ensure the safety of our citizens,” the Israeli ambassador said.

In Israel, three people have been injured by rocket fire since Friday, according to the latest report from rescuers. According to the Israeli army, hundreds of rockets have been fired from Gaza since Friday, but the vast majority have been intercepted.

“Most of the wounded were injured by the Islamic group’s shots, we did not kill anyone, defends Yaël German. It was their missiles that killed their citizens.”

Fear of retaliation

It was the arrest last Monday in the occupied West Bank of Bassem Saadi, leader of the Islamic Jihad in this Palestinian territory occupied since 1967 by Israel, which caused the current outbreak of violence.

The Israeli authorities justified their first attacks on Friday in the Gaza Strip by fear of reprisals from this Palestinian enclave under Israeli blockade.

In the past two days, Israeli forces have arrested some 40 Islamic Jihad operatives in the West Bank.

The confrontation between Israel and Islamic Jihad is the worst since May 2021 between Israel and Hamas. The latter had killed 260 Palestinians in 11 days, including fighters, and 14 dead in Israel, including a soldier, according to local authorities.
