Russian journalist Marina Ovsiannikova, famous for cutting a Russian state-run news report with a poster against the attack in Ukraine, has been fined again this Monday (8) for denouncing the conflict.

Ovsiannikova was convicted by the Moscow administrative court of “discrediting” the Russian army and said she had to pay 40,000 rubles (about 650 euros) in her Telegram account.

His lawyer, Dmitry Zakhvatov, told AFP that the journalist was convicted for a post he made on Facebook.

At the end of July, he had already been ordered to pay a fine for the same reason.

Two convictions in less than six months pave the way for criminal prosecutions, with much more serious legal consequences.

Despite legal threats, Ovsiannikova continues to openly criticize the attack in Ukraine. This Monday, he published an ironic text that he read to the judge in his defense.

“I accept that it was the USA and Europe that decided that there should be no freedom of expression, no independent judges, no free elections in Russia and that the people should be arrested for peace,” he said.

Ovsiannikova rose to fame after appearing on a pro-Kremlin television news program in mid-March, where she worked with a poster denouncing war and “propaganda” of power-controlled vehicles.

While many admire his bravery, there are those among the Russian opposition who criticize him for working for the pro-government channel Pervy Kanal in the past.

After working abroad for several months, mostly for the German newspaper Die Welt, she announced in July that she had returned to Russia to resolve a legal dispute over custody of her children.
