The first ship carrying Ukrainian grain since the Russian invasion docked in Mersin, Turkey on Wednesday, where it found a new buyer, according to the Middle East Eye news portal.
The Sierra Leone-flagged “Razoni” departed with 26,000 tons of corn from the Ukrainian Black Sea port of Odessa on August 1 and was due to dock in the Lebanese port of Tripoli last Sunday.
But Ukraine’s embassy in Beirut announced on Tuesday that the five-month delay in delivery “encouraged the comparator and shipper to agree to cancel the order.”
According to maritime traffic monitoring websites, the ship docked in Mersin, a Turkish port in the Mediterranean, on Wednesday night.
Middle East Eye stated that the corn shipment has found a new buyer. “The shipment has been sold and will be unloaded in Mersin,” said Ahmed Al Fares of the Ashram shipping agency, quoted by this vehicle.
Russia and Ukraine signed an agreement on July 22 that makes it possible to resume exports of Ukrainian grains, which have been blocked by war in ports, monitored by Turkey and the UN, to alleviate the world food crisis.
Frederick Kenney, a senior UN official responsible for overseeing the agreement, said on Wednesday that wheat exports will resume next week after the movement of ships with maize from Ukrainian ports.
