Vatican Foreign Minister Cardinal Pietro Parolin reiterated this Thursday (11) that Pope Francis wishes to visit Kiev and Moscow, the capitals of Ukraine and Russia, respectively.
Jorge Bergoglio has made it clear in his statements in recent months that he wants to go to Moscow to meet with President Vladimir Putin before going to Kiev, but the Kremlin has not yet opened.
“The Pope’s will is to go to both Moscow and Kiev to end the war. The Vatican tries to establish good relations with everyone to have the opportunity to talk to the people and to face the challenges together. Parolin, second in the Roman Curia hierarchy, is the Italian webmaster. “There are,” he said in an interview with the website La Voce del Nordest.
“If Pope Francis has not been to Russia so far, it is because there are no conditions. We hope some violations will open up,” said the Foreign Minister.
Last Saturday (6), the Pope met with the Ukrainian Ambassador to the Vatican, Andrii Yurash, to talk about a possible visit to Kiev.
The Vatican has yet to set a deadline, but the diplomat said the trip could take place before Francis’ visit to Kazakhstan, scheduled for September 13-15.
