WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s lawyer signed a statement in June stating that all classified materials stored in boxes at Trump’s home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, have been returned to the United States. The Times reported on Saturday.

The statement was signed after Jay Bratt, a senior national security official at the US Department of Justice, visited Trump’s South Florida beach club on June 3, the New York Times reported. The newspaper said Bratt met with two of Trump’s lawyers during the visit to discuss the handling of classified information.

A search warrant made public on Friday showed Trump is under federal investigation for possible violations of the Espionage Act, which makes it illegal to spy on behalf of another country or to misuse US defense information, including sharing it with unauthorized persons.

FBI agents this week searched Mar-a-Lago and removed a group of 11 documents classified as classified, including some marked top secret, according to the Justice Department.

The presence of Trump’s lawyer’s testimony suggests that Trump and his team may not have fully disclosed information about classified documents in the former president’s home, the Times reported.

Reuters was unable to independently verify the report. The US Department of Justice did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
