A civil disobedience movement is gaining momentum in the UK. Thousands of consumers have signed a commitment not to pay their energy bills from October if nothing is implemented to combat the sharp rise in prices.

In principle, because of the lack of resources, condemning the sense of injustice or waiting for a solution: for all these reasons, “Pay!” (Do not pay in free translation) continues at full speed. About 110,000 people plan to cancel their auto debts to protest rising energy prices.

On the one hand, institutions worry about the possibility of heavy debt as energy shortages will affect 12 million people, twice the current number. On the other hand, energy regulator Ofgem warns of the risk of gas and power outages.

Bills are estimated to reach £3,500 a year for the average family in the fall. This would be an increase of 300% compared to October last year. In January, bills can average up to £5,000 a year. This is the highest inflation in the UK in 40 years.

Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown published an opinion piece in the newspaper Guard calls on energy companies that cannot temporarily lower their prices to return to public service.
