Ukraine said on Monday it attacked a base belonging to the Wagner paramilitary group, whose members are accused of fighting alongside Russian troops, and destroyed a bridge near the occupied city of Melitopol.
According to the governor of the Lugansk region of eastern Ukraine, the base of this private military company in the city of Propasna was “destroyed by a precision shot.” According to Serguii Gaidai on Telegram, the operation was carried out on Sunday.
The Wagner group will be linked to the Russian oligarch Evgueni Prigoyin, who is considered an ally of President Vladimir Putin.
Its fighters have taken part in conflicts in Syria, Libya, Mali and other African countries in recent years.
Ukrainian officials also assured that pro-Kyiv sabotage groups, in a new effort to disrupt the logistics of Moscow troops, managed to destroy a railway bridge on the outskirts of Melitopol (Zaporizhzhia region, south) occupied by the Russian army.
“One less railway bridge in southwestern Melitopol means the complete absence of military trains from the Crimea,” the peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014 and needed for the Russian army’s supplies, Melitopol mayor Ivan Fedorov told Telegram.
