The alert about the disappearance of this diver, “about ten nautical miles (about 18 kilometers)” west of Faial, had been given “by a representative of a tourism company specializing in maritime activities,” according to the press release of the Portuguese authorities. .
The work of the rescuers, supported in particular by several ships and an air force plane, was interrupted at the end of the day on Monday. Faial Island is located in the central group of the Azores archipelago, a popular destination for tourists, about 1,500 kilometers west of Lisbon.
