According to the current balance sheet published by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, at least 16 people were killed in an explosion in a commercial district of Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, on Sunday.
“We recovered 16 bodies,” the ministry said in a statement. Search efforts continue with 350 state officials.
18 people are still missing.
The explosion caused the building to collapse and injured more than 60 people.
The Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor of Armenia announced that an investigation has been launched on the allegation of “violation of the regulation on the storage of combustible products and fire regulations”, which caused the death of many people as a result of “negligence”.
According to eyewitnesses, the explosion occurred in a fireworks warehouse in the Surmulu market.
Authorities ruled out the possibility of an attack.
